Yvonne van der Heul
Yvonne van der Heul is a South African born artist, resident in the UK. She has exhibited her work internationally and at the Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Art, the Royal College of Music and Trinity Arts and Crafts Guild in London. She annually participates in the Chelsea Arts Festival.
By chance, a solo exhibition in 1993 coincided with the Kirov Ballet at the Coliseum. Having survived the restriction of apartheid South Africa, now experiencing this hugely brilliant and healing performance of classical ballet and music, directed her towards a decision as an artist. The need to focus on beauty and balance, rather than pain and destruction.
The artwork she produces is conceptual. The 'now' becomes the starting point for sketching 'in situ' at performances of music and dance. The 'sketch'or 'premier pensee' becomes the symbol of emancipation toward a new translation using traditional methods; eg. mixed media and oil on canvas. Images are relocated into the lakes and parks in the city of London, resulting in works of originality and independence.
